I'm thinking of starting a video blog. I'm practicing acoustic covers of cartoon theme tunes, viral songs and catchy ad songs.
I don't know why. I guess I'm pretty bored. I'm tarting with the Daria theme tune. Cause I love Daria.
Maybe it'll cheer me up. I feel like shit lately. Self esteem crisis much?

Tattoo...

By now I have a long list of tattoos that I've wanted to get for a while. I have some priorities though;
I want a flower under my left arm. It's kind of a Japanese style flower, it's pink, purple and blue and quite big. It's kind of just something I really like. I like that it represents my feminine side while the colours represent my moshing, grunge loving, guitar playing, beer drinking side.

The second one I want is "Where is my mind?" Written in nice cursive on the back of my neck. This is an ode to one of my favourite bands. The Pixies were kind of a gateway band for me. Also the lyrics in particular represent the fact that I'm a day dreamer and although my body is stuck here for now my mind is kind of free to float wherever it desires.

The third is the one I've wanted most, a thick black outlined heart on my wrist. It's simple but represents wearing my heart on my sleeve. I think I'll get this one done when I'm in Italy. As a kind of souvener. Especially as the langauge barrier can't be much of a problem with a tattoo this simple.

and last but not least I want a something to represent Betty Page. Although I haven't thought about what exactly yet. She's kind of a personal idol and I adore 50's pin ups.

First on my body mod list is getting my right ear stretched to an 00 gauge. It's going to put me out 80 quid though. :(

I can't wait to get out of this house let alone this country. Apparently you can't express your feelings through your own personal blog without your family hacking your account and deleting the post. Sometimes it's horrible when your family are so computer savvy.
Anyway, never mind all that BS. I went to Air last night. What a great band. They're just such fantastic musicians. They even played a song from the Virgin Suicides soundtrack.

The Virgin Suicides wins for various reasons:

1, Lux Lisbon is everything that I want to be.
2, Jefferey Euginides is such a great author. He describes things so beautifully.
3, Air did the soundtrack for the movie.
4, Sofia Coppola directed the movie and she's great. (Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette)
5, Lux is played by Kirsten Dunst who I adore.
6, Trip Fontain is just like the greatest.
7, "You're a stone fox."

Air win for various reasons:

1, They're fucking class.
2, They make me want to play bass big time.
3, Mer Du Japon.
4, The Virgin Suicides soundtrack.
5, They're French and therefore far cooler than anyone I know.

Final Summer plans

So yeah I'm going to Venice now. For sure. I just have to book my flights and I'm off to Northern Italy for a few months. I read that March and April are chilly and wet but the weather picks up in May which is cool.

I've spent the past two days using forums and Couchsurfing.com to find people to hang out with while I'm there.
It was a success. I found a few other English speaking au pairs to meet up with. I'll also be visiting a friend in Bolonga. I'm fairly delighted with all this.

I get mornings off and all weekend to explore the city. I'll be taking Italian lessons, playing guitar, sketching and writing mostly so it'll be a productive break from Clonmellon. (The dullest place in existence.)

I'll also be going to London with Robyn end of July, I have an interview for Galway then too. Come August I'll be off to Vienna, Austria for some sunny couch surfing adventures. Then home and off to Galway for a year of art, design and chillin'.

Meh. That's pretty much everything I'm excited about for now. I decided to blog it and spare my family from hearing me yap about it tomorrow too.

New York

Me and my sister, Robyn, went to see a photography exibition on New York. I think it was simply called "Picturing New York" Anyway, it was pretty excellent. Although we didn't have the booklet explaining the various pictures (which I'm sure would have been more than helpful) it was still really great.
Most of the pictures were quite old. The majority I think ranged from about 1930-1950 but there were many more recent ones.
It really made me miss New York. A lot. I'm destined to live there someday as a stuggeling artist. Haha :) Maybe I'll attend NYU and study fashion. That would be far better than Edinburgh anyway.

That reminds me. I've been working on a song about New York recently. It's starting to sound like a really bad rip off of PJ Harvey. I can barely play guitar or sing. I'm not doing her justice.

That's pretty much how I feel right about now. I've been trying to turn things around lately.
I've started working on my art. Sketching, painting and collage mostly at the moment. Although hopefully soon I'll be exploring sculpter and other stuff like dress design.

My sister and I have set a challenge to attempt to reach 50,000 words by March 30th. 10 days after my 19th Birthday. My sister is 15. We're each writing a teen novel. Although mine is more a book that is a collection of short stories based in Ireland. The characters are linked in each story but not in any obvious way. It's pretty basic at the moment but I'm thinking of a theme of homosexuality and kind of basing it around how hard it is for gay people in Ireland. We have a miniscule amount of gay bars and lets face it the population is small. If you're gay it's not so bad but being a lesbian girl in Ireland is like, you know, slim pickin's. Anyway it's not a huge issue in the book but it's kind of something that I had thought about over the past while.
Point is. If we both complete the challenge out mother is paying for our accomodation for a trip that we're taking to London in Summer.

I've been really inspired while writing lately. Since Christmas I've read some really excellent books that were so well writen. Currently I'm reading Middlesex by Jefferey Eugenides. Before that I read Running With Scissors which was truly amazing. Before that the Virgin Suicides, another Eugenides book and before them One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest which I only half read. I wasn't in the mood for that type of book at the time so I ditched it for the Lisbon bitches.

So, I've pretty much abandoned this blog seeing as my Tumblr account has pretty much taken over. Not much has changed in the past while. Well actually no, that's a lie. A lot has changed since I was last on Blogger.

Firstly, I didn't get into Maynooth to do Arts as I had hoped. Instead I went to DCU to study Contemporary Culture and Society (What is that anyway?) which just wasn't right for me. I was pretty miserable.
Although I met some pretty cool people the college and the course weren't right for me. So I dropped out.

So...

Then I had planned to apply for Art in Limerick and NCAD but I only had a month to complete a portfolio and I hadn't practiced art in a long time so I kind of gave up on that after a number of weeks.

So...

Now I'm going to go to Galway in September to do an Art course. It sounds pretty cool. It's like an exploration of various art forms. Which is great because I'm not really sure what I'd like to do yet. I may even end up in English, Media and Cultural Studies in Dun Laoghrie as I have far more than enough points to get it.

So...

In the meantime my family are considering (Which means it may NEVER happen) Moving to Bray for a little while. Which would be fantastic as I'd be half an hour from the city and I can take a course in Dress Design that's based in the city centre. It's only a month long but I'd be happy learning the basics and practicing on my mam's sewing machine at home.

But yeah academically that's where I'm at.
In other news:

I have so many options for the Summer that I'm really not sure what to do.

I could go to any nuber of destinations with Habitat a charity that builds homes, schools etc in disadvantaged areas.

I could Au Pair in Milan as I got offered a place in the suburbs of Milan teaching basic English to two teenagers.

I could go to France and spend some time there.

I will be going to London for a while and I'll be visiting my friend in Austria hopefully. There's really a lot for me to choose from. I also want to go to Life Fest. and Electric Picnic again as they were both pretty rockin.

Snow Day

Yesterday it snowed in little old Clonmellon, which was about time because it had already been doing so everywhere else in Meath for the past three days.

I decided to take advantage of the situation and created a brilliant being whom I named, John Snow (named after my all time favourite channel 4 news reader.)

Today I could not make it to college as the roads were quite bad and my nanny couldn't drive me. I will spend the say doing a statistics project which I have been dreading for quite some time now.

I cannot wait until the college year is over.
I am sick of being in college all week and spending my weekends taking tickets in the theatre.
I am sick of never seeing my friends and always feeling guilty about not replying to texts or returning phone calls.

I just wish Summer would roll on, exams results would arrive and i can get on with being a teenager!

I can't wait for days eating greasy chips at the sea side in Bray, travelling to places I don't even know exist yet and most importantly hanging out with friends that I have missed a lot.

Bayona's Orphanage is a contemporary Spanish horror set in a scenic, coastal part of Spain. The Orphanage is about a couple, Laura played by Belèn Rueda, her husband Carlos (Fernando Cayo) and their adopted son Simòn (Roger Princep). The family relocate to the orphanage, an aged house in which our protagonist Laura spent her childhood it is surely not long before it's dark history is projected in a supernatural manner. Laura's plan is to re-open the orphanage to children with special needs just as it was when she was a child. Her son, Simòn soon makes some imaginary friends to keep him company in the isolated house. As the story unfolds it is suggested that these new friends of Simòn's are less than savory as they begin to toy with the family by playing sinister games. Laura's dream of opening the orphanage is soon shattered as Simòn goes missing during a celebration. Laura believes that Simòn's new friends are responsible for his disappearance and that there is surely a supernatural explanation. As she becomes obsessed with investigating this, the atmosphere in the house becomes very macabre...

Despite the use of classic Gothic supernatural machinery resident in old horror movies Del Toro's Orphanage truly stands out from the average, special effect ridden modern horrors that dominate our screens. Although the primary concern of this emotionally intense horror is to use the extramundane to terrify it's audience it is also an impassioned tale illustrating a mothers maternal fixation with the belief that there is a supernatural explanation for her sons disappearance. Rueda's excellent performance engages the audience in all of the emotional distress involved with grieving the loss of a child and the supernatural occurrences present in the house. This is especially apparent when Laura is confronted by a child, clothed in attire suited to a different time whilst sporting a creepy cloth mask.

Writer of the film Sergio G. Sánchez had this to say in a television interview “I think that our biggest challenge, was to do a movie that could be understood as a ghost story, and that you could also read as the descent into madness of a woman who just doesn't know how to cope with the disappearance of her son” With the admittedly intentional nod to to Henry James' literary work 'The Turn of the Screw' and presenter of the Orphanage, Guillermo Del Toro 's previous cinematic wonder, 'The devils backbone” The film is sure to leave it's audience tense, uneasy and quivering in their boots. During these miserable January days,I am really missing the colour and culture of Buenos Aires.
Due to college and work I am really feeling the need for a break! The other night I watched 'The Beach'. You know the one with Leonardo DiCaprio in it. Anyway, it has given me the urge to go somewhere and do something exciting! I would however like to avoid the dead Swede's and the lack of television.
Please, somebody take me away from this miserable village I am sick to death of bland days, recession and rain.

As it is now a new year, I have decided this boring blog is well due a make over!

I would firstly like to use this blog to post my college essays, film/album reviews and my photography.
Also the plan is that it will also act as a vent for ranting on about things that I'm sure interests no one. Acting as a kind of place to channel my frustration towards the horrors of everyday Irish, teen life.

These horrors include;

The Bus,
Having to sit beside a friend of a friend, being forced to spout crappy chit chat on the bus for two hours, making for a very uncomfortable two hour bus journey home.

Constantly forgetting to charge my ipod during the week and thus being tortured by the sounds of uneasy sleeping and winter sniffles coming from the grossly over-weight, unwashed users of public transport, whom by the way always seem to choose the seat next to me.

College,
Having to hand up an essay every second day is certainly not fun, to the max.

Work,
The realisation that I simply have to take on as many hours as I can at work due to lack of funding from the rents.

The worst thing I have ever experienced was watching the musical 'Annie' 9 times, which by the way was sung by out of tune children who forgot their lines every 5 minutes. I know this because, by the time I had the pleasure of watching 3 shows I was able to mouth the whole production word for word.
Once or twice I even wished that some old bingo biddy would trip me up with her walking stick as I help her down the stairs just so I didn't have to hear "I love you Daddy Warbuck" one more time.

I do hope however that 2009 will be far more fabulous than 2008, which over all was a bland and uneventful year.

I have much to look forward to including;

My 18th birthday, which I am hoping will be a jolly old party full of missed friends and not so missed extended family.

Finally being able to spend my "hard earned" money.
Well I mean, despite Annie, working in a theatre and getting paid to watch free shows is a fairly handy aul job.
I am especially looking forward to Bekett's End Game.

Going to university and getting away from Liberties college. As charming as the liberties is, the lack of facilities and decent decor make it an extremely bleak place to spend 5 days of your week.

Visiting my friend Katharina in Austria, although I am considering a crash diet for the few weeks before hand. I have seen the Austrian girls and as my wardrobe consists of mainly black clothing I would rather not have passers by thinking they have just spotted free willy munching on a schnitzel.

And last but certainly not least, Electric Picnic and Bang Face, both of which should be rockin' good times!
